Lynn's Herbal Fertility Remedy - "The Tayler Tonic"
My Story
When my husband and I were trying to conceive and carry our first child together, we tried just about every medical remedy we could. We saw a genetics counselor, fertility specialists in the US and in Europe, and read everything we could get our hands on. I was poked, prodded, penetrated and humiliated. It's hard to keep your dignity during fertility treatments and I sunk deep into depression.
After five years, the loss of eight babies and one fallopian tube, a lukewarm diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Disorder, and the recommendation that we spend $2800 a cycle (out of pocket) on a series of injections that may or may not work, my husband and I finally felt we had enough. I had been riding the fertility roller coaster for a long long time and it was time to get off and return to normalcy, whatever that meant. I accepted that I may not give birth to a child, but I was open to adopting and began the search for the right agency.
In January 2002, without actively trying, I became pregnant and miscarried our ninth child the day after I got a positive test. I was actively temping and charting at the time and considered foregoing that because I just couldn't deal with the failure. But I didn't want to use hormonal contraceptives, so I stayed with the Fertility Awareness Method.
In March, I read a few articles regarding the use of herbs as treatment for infertility and miscarriage. I thought, "What the heck! Five years of doctors, specialists, tests, and shotgun approaches...I couldn't possibly do any worse than any of them treating myself." So after doing some initial research, I went to my local health food store and bought Chaste Tree Berry / Vitex capsules and False Unicorn Root tincture. After following the protocol below, I discovered to my surprise that I had ovulated twelve days earlier than usual! I was not trying to get pregnant, and in fact my husband and I only had relations ONCE the month of April. And that was four days before ovulation. So imagine my next shock...I went in for a wisdom tooth extraction and before they did the surgery, I took a pregnancy test just as a precaution and it came back positive! I kept using the False Unicorn Root until I entered my second trimester, which was the longest I had carried a baby. In
December 2002, I gave birth to the most glorious little girl...my little miracle.
After Larisa's birth, my cycles were very normal and my nurse practioner advised that if we wanted another child, we should try to conceive before things went back to their screwy baseline. We tried to conceive without the help of anything (herbal or chemical) and in fact, did. But less than six weeks later we said goodbye to our tenth baby (we named him Warren, after our favorite singer Warren Zevon, who died the month previous). I felt, then, that I had to use herbs to help me carry a pregnancy. So I went back on the protocol. In January, over Martin Luther King's Day weekend, I got another positive HPT. I was cautiously optimistic as I took the FUR during my first trimester. In September 2004, I gave birth to my second miracle baby...a perfect little boy.
I have absolutely no scientific proof that this works. But what I do have are two beautiful babies, both of whom were conceived and carried while I used what I call "The Tayler Tonic".
As with all herbs, you should only use them after seeking the advisement of your doctor or licensed herbalist/naturopath. Only you and they can know if these herbs are right for you! Please remember, I'm not a doctor or herbalist, nor do I claim to be. I am simply an ordinary person like you who tried this and it worked for me. I wish you ~*~*~* Baby Dust *~*~*~ and *!*!*!Sticky Vibes!*!*!*

The Protocol
The Tayler Tonic is actually two separate herbal tinctures. Chaste Tree Berry (also known as Vitex) and False Unicorn Root. You can read about their properties on the general information page.
For optimum results, you should use this in conjuction with some type of cycle tracking method, such as CycleBeads™ or Fertility Awareness Method. This is so that you will have an accurate idea of when you ovulate and how long your luteal cycle (the period between ovulation and the start of your next period) is.
- Dilute 30 drops of Chaste Tree Berry tincture in water or juice (juice will mask the taste better) three times daily, beginning on day 1 of your cycle (the first day of your period) and continuing through the day of ovulation.
- You can take the False Unicorn one of two ways: 30 drops under the tongue three times daily or diluted in juice three times daily (I recommend the juice because of the taste). Begin on the day of ovulation and continue until the first day of your next period or through the first trimester, whichever is applicable.
- Some herbalists believe False Unicorn Root is an extremely powerful tool for getting pregnant and recommend starting it on cycle day 1. This is completely up to you. I only started using it beginning with ovulation, but I did not have much problems with actually conceiving a baby, just carrying a live one to term.
